Building a Character

Bringing Character to Life

One of my favorite parts of playing tabletop games is building the characters. Coming up with a idea and building it into a full-fledged character with hopes, dreams, problems, and destiny. I will be walking through my process of creating characters. Not just the parts that sit in the rulebooks, but the parts that bring the person to life. Answering questions like: What is the world I am living in, and how do I fit? What am I and who am I? Why am I here in this story? What do I want from and want to add to the story? Why am I even in this story? Is it treasure, fame, an escape, or because life has left me no choice?

While I really don’t consciously sit down and write the answer to each of these questions, these are the kind of things I want to use to create a compelling, at least to me, character to play. Hopefully, someone that has enough of what’s in me to play accurately and enough of a background for me to diverge from doing everything I might immediately think of doing were it myself.

The first character is a test of sorts. I am developing the slideshow to be able to show the creation process in a video. I need it to show the numbers and choices I make along with allowing me to focus on all I have discussed above as the character comes to life.

Talan Eaglebeak is a Ranger for the Seasons of the Ghost Adventure Path from Paizo for the Pathfinder 2nd Edition game. Right off the bat, the name is really not right. This takes place in a part of the Pathfinder world (Golarion) that is based on Chinese and Japanese culture. So I will change that at some point.

Follow along here for more updates. I will post the video series when it is up on YouTube.

Take care and talk to you soon.
